2004 – Wicks and Wellness

Franke Tobey Jones has also become a leader in Senior Wellness in Pierce County with one of the first senior living communities in the area with a comprehensive program developed by a nationally recognized wellness consultant.  The 6,000 square foot M.J. Wick’s Family Wellness Center opened in 2004 has become a hallmark of the campus.  Open to both residents and seniors in the greater Tacoma area, it includes a large indoor walking track, numerous daily fitness classes, many state-of-the-art fitness machines and personal trainers, all intended to help improve the quality of life

April 16, 2004, the Wellness Center was named the M.J. Wicks Family Wellness Center in honor of the Wicks family for their generous support of $1 million to build the new Wellness Center.  After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree at Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, Dr. Wicks and his family moved to Tacoma where, after a four-year specialty residency, he began a 35-year career as a physician.  Jim and his wife moved to Franke Tobey Jones in ____________, and always passionate about health, you would see him regularly exercising in the Wellness Center.  His generous donation also contributed to the healthy lifestyle of so many seniors in this community.  He passed away at the age of 94 on December 20, 2017, and his memorial service was held in the M.J. Wicks Family Wellness Center at Franke Tobey Jones.
