2019 – Opening of the New Care Center and Bristol View Apartments

Although residents started moving into the new Bristol View apartments in September 2019, the Grand Opening for both the new Care Center and Bristol View was held July 25, 2019.   Capital Campaign Chair, Dr. Phil Phibbs; FTJ Resident Council Chairperson, Barbara Miener; and FTJ Board Chair, Jeff Watts, cut the grand opening ribbon with an audience of over 200 attendees who were excited to see these incredibly beautiful buildings. Residents moved into the new Care Center in November 2019.

Care Center

The 65,000 square foot Care Center provides nearly all private suites with private bathrooms, personal in-suite medication cabinets, beautiful gathering areas for residents and family members to share time together, large activity rooms and a theater.  Meals will be prepared on-site and served in lovely dining rooms.  There will also be outdoor patios and lots of windows to provide a real Home-like feel.

The new Care Center will not look or feel like your standard skilled nursing institutional building, where you walk down a long corridor with rooms on both sides.  The design is innovative and will definitely not be your grandmother’s nursing Home.  Both the skilled nursing and memory care community are designed with small “pods” of rooms clustered around open living spaces where residents and family can enjoy quality time together.

The Care Center was also designed to look like large Homes rather than one, large institutional building.  The architecture is in their classic Tudor Style, so it is a natural extension of the entire campus look and feel.  This building will be Home to 43 health care (skilled nursing) residents and 28 memory care residents.  The memory care community is housed on the lower level of the building with lovely secure, open access courtyards, and the skilled nursing community will be located on the top floor of the building.  Both areas will have a similar look and feel.

This was an exciting new chapter in our mission to make a difference in the lives of seniors.  It is important to FTJ to provide a range of services, not only for the residents and families who call FTJ Home, but for the surrounding community that has become so much a part of our culture.”

With this new Care Center, Franke Tobey Jones sets a new standard for long-term skilled nursing and memory care in this region. As our population ages, and the demand for long-term senior care and memory care rises, Franke Tobey Jones is prepared to meet these needs. But Franke Tobey Jones has not only been meeting needs but leading the way in senior care for nearly a century. In planning for the new Care Center, Franke Tobey Jones listened to residents, to the broader community and to other experts in our field, and will be providing housing, programs and care that respects wishes and exceeds expectations. Ultimately, Franke Tobey Jones is redefining the common perception of senior care.

The new Care Center is thoughtfully designed to support the three essential tenets of the care provided:

  • Preserving DIGNITY and independence
  • Creating, nurturing and sustaining a supportive COMMUNITY that keeps loneliness and isolation at bay
  • Staying nimble and flexible to provide the most INNOVATIVE Care

Dr. Phil Phibbs FTJ resident and Capital Campaign Chairperson

“The Care Center is everything we wanted it to be.  Since moving in I’ve looked at every nook and cranny in this building and it’s phenomenal!  Because there are secure outside courtyards for memory care residents, they have the freedom to walk outside.  It makes it a “real” place.…not like a prison where you are locked up.  There is the entire scope of life that residents can enjoy.  We see lots of flowers, hear the birds, breathe and feel the fresh air.   The memory care rooms are like little houses where you have everything you need.  This makes such a big difference.  We brought our special artwork, our own bed and bedding, our couch and chairs…just like it was at Home.   There is access to wonderful activities and the food is GOOD!  All these things help make the FTJ Care Center special and unique.  It’s innovative and far ahead of its time.”
