Jack Falskow
My first recollection of Franke Tobey Jones was in the spring of 1951. I had just received a 3-speed Raleigh bicycle for Christmas in 1950.
A classmate and good friend of mine had a similar bike. We pedaled from my house on North 36th to Point Defiance Park and on the way stopped at the entrance to FTJ. We looked in wonder at this huge home and the driveway going to the home which was lined with poplar trees. My friend said “Jeez, I wonder who lives there – they must have a lot of money”. I agreed. Little did we know that it was a retirement home.
In February, 1988 my wife’s stepmother, Caroline Nelsen, move to FTJ where she lived until she passed away in 2003.
In 1993 my mother, Peg Falskow Gilchrist, moved to FTJ after her second husband, Jim Gilchrist, passed. She lived in the Tobey Jones building and subsequently on the first floor of the Lillian Pratt building until she passed away in 1999.
